Affiliate links
Some book links on this site are affiliate links to Bookshop.org and Libro.fm. If you buy through one of them, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Bookshop.org also shares a portion of its profits with independent bookstores.
Affiliate links appear on the home page, the Reviews page, the Reading Ledger, and individual review posts. Each of those sections carries a short disclosure directly above the book cards, so you see it before you click rather than after. Affiliate links are also marked rel="sponsored" in the page code.
An affiliate link never changes what I say about a book. I link to titles because I have read them, am reading them, or intend to. I do not accept payment for a positive review, and I have never been offered one.
Review copies and ARCs
I sometimes receive advance reader copies (ARCs) or finished review copies from publishers, authors, or platforms such as NetGalley. Receiving a copy is not a promise to review it, and it is never a promise to review it favourably. Where a review covers a book I did not buy myself, the post says so at the top.
Editorial clients
I work as a freelance editor. If I have been paid to work on a book, I will not review it here. If a personal or professional relationship with an author or publisher could reasonably look like a conflict, I will disclose it in the post or decline to write about the book.
The opportunities list
The contests and open calls listed on this site are gathered by hand from public sources. Nobody pays to be listed, and listing something is not an endorsement of the organisation running it. Deadlines and entry fees change without notice — always check the official listing before you submit. I flag entry fees where the source states them, but the source is not always right.
Rates
The starting rates on the Services page are anchored to the Editorial Freelancers Association’s published rate ranges. They are starting points, not fixed prices; every project is quoted after I read a sample.
